The Auction Committee's ongoing goal is to maintain a high-quality auction and constantly raise the bar on the types of consignment items that are offered for sale. Our desire is to offer the best merchandise possible in all categories, so that our auction is attractive to a wide spectrum of buyers. Our hope each year is to feature more and more premier items that will enhance the reputation of our very special auction in Bird-in-Hand.
For example, in the past we have sold an antique hearse in its original condition for $13,000 and a Brewster Vis-a-vis also in excellent condition for $11,000. When we have big-ticket items such as these to sell, they attract a lot of attention and make for a very exciting sale. Be aware that well-used or weathered carriages that have great potential for careful restoration are also very desirable. If a carriage has a rare wood, noteworthy artwork or pinstripes, or is a one-of-a- kind design, it does not necessarily need to be in mint condition to bring a large sum of money.
It is a win-win situation for a consignor of quality items and the Bird-in-Hand Fire Company to partner together at this auction. The consignor whose items sell well leaves the auction knowing that he has embraced a cause greater than himself. He has reached out to benefit the local community, which the Fire Company faithfully serves. The Auction Committee members are grateful to the people who consign with us and are happy to provide the setting for this mutual support.
